ONLY A HUMAN CAN TELL A STORY.
Considering the growing threat of Artificial Intelligence in our industry, all voice talent are concerned about the future of the business. As AI becomes more accurate in replicating voices, it's important to remember one thing: NO ARTIFICIAL VOICE CAN MATCH EVERY NUANCE, EMOTION, TONE AND VOLUME OF THE HUMAN VOICE.
Sure, an AI voice may be sufficient for a corporate video, a product demonstration or perhaps even a training program. But only a human can tell a story. This is why I am focusing my attention these days on narration, where there is a strong need for the full spectrum of human emotions. This is especially true in the field of audiobooks, but it applies to any situation that demands master storytelling. If you have what it takes, audiobooks are your best bet in voiceovers today.
My experience in narrating fiction shows that true storytelling demands knowing what the character is feeling, not just what they are saying. That requires a knowledge of the many ways there are of expressing ourselves. It results in no two sentences sounding quite the same. Try to get that from an AI voice!
I welcome your comments about these opinions. We need to be as prepared as possible to meet the challenges of this new development in our business.
